The Korea Times interviewed MTV’s SuChin Pak, the first Asian-American face and correspondent for MTV Networks.  She has interviewed all the music luminaries we’ve heard of and she has supported multiple Korean-American causes.

“What I do every day is really a dream job,’’ says Pak. “The experience is indescribable.’’

Since joining MTV as a news correspondent in 2001, Pak has covered the MTV Movie Awards, the Sundance Film Festival and the MTV Video Music Awards, to name but a few. Besides her entertainment coverage, she hosted her own documentary series and reported on major events including September 11 and the Haiti Earthquake.

Unlike typical news jobs, the nature of Pak’s work requires great versatility to quickly switch gears from touring celebrity homes to covering the presidential election.

“There is really nothing that can prepare you for a job like this,’’ said the 34-year-old. “Everyday is different and because MTV is such a huge and global brand, it’s all about how you figure out your voice.’’

The Korean American Community Foundation is holding its 4th annual Building Bridges Gala on Wednesday night in New York City at Pier Sixty in Chelsea Piers.  This year’s guests include keynote speaker Dr. Jim Yong Kim, the new president of Dartmouth and Andrew Kim of Sit/Kim International Investment.  Co-emceeing the event will be ABC News Juju Chang and SuChin Pak of MTV.

The needs of current and future grantee partners in the greater New York area are more acute than ever due to the direct and indirect effects of the economic downturn. Therefore, the funds that we raise through this year?s gala will have an even greater impact. It is also our continuing imperative to raise awareness – awareness that there are many in the greater New York area, including Korean Americans, who lack resources and opportunities; that there are great organizations that are working within the community to provide real solutions; and of KACF’s ongoing efforts to bridge the Korean American community and all the other communities for the greater good.

We hope that the Fourth Annual Building Bridges Gala will once again bring the community together in a celebration of the outstanding contributions of our honorees, the courageous work of our grantee organizations and engage supporters in the ongoing work of our Foundation. We look forward to seeing you there.

Janice Min, the powerful editor-in-chief of US Weekly is calling it quits.  She is stepping down next week after a long and successful tenure at US Weekly, where she was the architect in transforming the weekly magazine into one of the premiere publications on the rack.  During her tenure, circulation more than doubled and US Weekly started to challenge long-time leader People magazine.  The magazine had more than $300 million in revenue last year.  So where is she going next?  What’s she going to do for the next chapter of her life?

“As long as I’m here, I can’t really even begin to think about what I’m going to do next,” she said. “But I’m 39 and I’d like to have another career. I felt like I’d done every possible thing at Us Weekly to make it successful.”

We found a video from a couple years ago of SuChin Pak of MTV interviewing Janice Min.
