Korean Food USA is a new series that showcases Korean and Korean-inspired eateries all around the nation.

San Francisco holds many eatery gems, and one of these good eats is called Namu, started by the Lee Brothers: Chef Dennis and his brothers David and Daniel.

Namu boasts numerous Korean and Japanese dishes at reasonable prices—not to mention, they use sustainable/seasonal ingredients from their farm. Several of their menu items have also hit the top charts and are worthy of taking note for future food crawls to SF.

Namu’s Real Korean Tacos are not your ordinary tacos. That’s because their tacos are wrapped in dried seaweed sheets (ggim), not tortilla. Within the wrap are seasoned rice, kimchi salsa, daikon, kimchee remoulade, teriyaki sauce, toasted seaweed, and your choice of chicken or beef.

Another favorite amongst food lovers are Namu’s Gamja Fries. These organic potato fries are topped with kimchee relish, gochujang (Korean red chili paste), kewpie mayo, house-made teriyaki, green onions, and again your choice of beef or chicken. And according to our sources, although there is gochujang on the fries, the overall taste is not spicy, but rather sweet, delicious and just right.

Namu also has a restaurant that used to be located in the Richmond district of SF, but is now reopening at Dolores St. at 18th under the new name Namu Gaji.  The grand opening will take place on April 11th, so don’t forget to check out the new interior designed by Brian Ford of Metropolis.

For a satisfying new twist to food, Namu’s “Californianized” fusion street food can be found Thursdays and Saturdays at San Francisco’s Ferry Building and participating in Off the Grid on Fridays at Fort Mason.
