Burn Baby Burn: Sunburns

Ouch.
You wanted to get a nice dark tan while laying out and you ended up getting burned.
You should know better than to skimp on the SPF, but I’m not here to lecture you (or I’ll try to refrain….)
The Damage is done (literally), so here a few tips to help you deal.

Keep it cool: Apply cold compresses — such as a towel dampened with cool water — to the affected skin. Or take a cool bath.

Keep it moist: Apply aloe or moisturizing cream to the affected skin.
* Try making Aloe Cubes by filling an empty ice tray with Aloe.  Use the frozen Aloe Cubes to ease the pain and cool down the skin
-Avoid products containing alcohol, which can further dry out skin. (Beware of sunburn treatment products containing anesthetics, such as benzocaine. There’s little evidence that these products are effective. In some cases, they may even irritate the skin)

Leave blisters intact: If blisters form, don’t break them. You’ll only slow the healing process and increase the risk of infection. If needed, lightly cover blisters with gauze.

Take an over-the-counter pain reliever: If needed, take anti-inflammatory medication — such as aspirin or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others) — according to the label instructions until redness and soreness subside.
-(Don’t give children or teenagers aspirin. It may cause Reye’s syndrome, a rare but potentially fatal disease)

Drink Water: A sunburn can cause a mild fever and a headache. Lie down in a cool, quiet room to relieve the headache. A headache may be caused by dehydration, so drinking fluids may help.

Treat peeling skin gently. Within a few days, the affected area may begin to peel. This is simply your body’s way of getting rid of the top layer of damaged skin. While your skin is peeling, continue to use moisturizing cream

Consult a doctor for sunburn treatment if:
- Severe sunburn covers a large portion of your body with blisters
- Sunburn is accompanied by a high fever or severe pain
- Severe sunburn doesn’t begin to improve within a few days

So remember to cover yourself in SPF~
It sucks getting burned…. but at least you’ll end up with that tan you wanted!  ;)

13-year-old Korean American plans to visit North Korea to promote peace

Thirteen-year-old Jonathan Lee plans to visit North Korea this week to share his idea for peace in the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea. Lee, a Korean American who was born in South Korea and now lives in Mississippi, will fly with his family to Pyongyang from Beijing.

The family stated that they applied this summer visit North Korea as a “special delegation,” and furthered that North Korea’s ambassador to the United Nations in New York gave permission for their visit, according to The Huffington Post. Lee expects to meet with North Korean officials, and will pitch his idea of peace- a children’s peace forest for fruit and chestnut trees and for children to play. Lee also hopes to give a letter to leader Kim Jong Il, which details a “sunshine policy” of peace for the two divided regions.

The family’s visit comes during high political tensions. The demilitarized zone is heavily guarded, with combat-ready troops that stand readily on guard on both sides. In addition, the sinking of a South Korean warship in March has caused greater tensions between the Northern and Southern regions.

“I Know You Are, But What Am I?”- How Do You See Yourself?

“Whether you think you can or think you can’t – you are right”
-Henry Ford

Do you feel beautiful, fun to be around, and smart?
Or do you usually feel ugly, boring, and dumb?

I recently heard a message about self-perception that intrigued me.
How do you see yourself?
If you think of the adjectives to describe yourself, do they lean more towards the positive or negative?

Our self-perception determines our life and how we see ourselves changes who we become.
  • If you are constantly berating yourself because you’re not good enough…. then you won’t be.
  • If you can’t see accept yourself, how can you expect others to?

Positive reinforcement works much better on children than negative reinforcement~ This also applies to you.

  • Stop being so hard on yourself, accept your faults, embrace your positive traits, and work on changing the things you want to change about yourself.
One of the best pieces of advice I’ve ever been given is “Fake it until you make it”.
So simple… yet so true.
Even a few years ago, my life was a mess and I was at a really low point.  My friend gave me this advice, I embraced it, and I do believe my life has changed  dramatically because of it.
  • You might not feel confident, attractive, or good enough…. but take a deep breath, pretend you are, and soon you will be.
  • Your self-perception shows in your behavior and actions.
  • A person who is confident in a paper bag can shine much more brightly than a self-conscious person in gorgeous clothes.

Self-Acceptance and Self-Confidence are two of the biggest beauty tips I could ever give you.

I hope you find within yourself what you need to become the best version of you.

Remember…. Fake it until you make it!   =)

You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.
You’re on your own.
And you know what you know.
You are the guy who’ll decide where to go.
-Dr. Seuss

North Korean Soccer Players Scolded

The buzz out of North Korea is that Kim Jong Il was so embarrassed by the losses at the World Cup that the soccer team was subjected to public humiliation.

Radio Free Asia and South Korean media outlets have reported the entire squad was forced onto a stage at the People’s Palace of Culture and subjected to criticism from Pak Myong-chol, the sports minister, as 400 government officials, students and journalists watched the six-hour ordeal.

Also, coach Kim Jong-hun reportedly has been relegated to a construction job and expelled from the Workers’ Party of Korea. (They make him a blue collar guy, but won’t let him be in the Workers’ Party? Go figure.)

This video is hard to digest and it makes me nauseous like after downing soju shots all night long.  It’s the Ktown cast reel and even this little 2 minute video makes you cringe.  Imagine what a full episode will feel like?!  There’s a small snippet at the end of the reel that shows what drama may come our way and it’s obviously overacted by one of the girls.  TMZ got a hold of this video and they must’ve been laughing their tails off at their offices.  This is going to be a train wreck!  UGHHH!!!  Damn you attention seeking reality actor wannabes.  Why are you screwing it up for the rest of our peeps?

You can check it out at TMZ.com.

Happy Fourth of July!

We all know about 4th of July and the signing of the Declaration of Independence.  We think of a day off from work, BBQ’s, fireworks and summer sizzling fun.  Sure we’re a bit detached from the fact that America was liberated from the Kingdom of Great Britain and that’s why it’s a historical and celebrated moment in time.  I’m sure our friends across the ponds say “who cares” that we celebrate the 4th.  So we didn’t have much to say or add to the weekend’s festivities but I do think that we can thank our forefathers for bringing liberty so that we can all have opportunities.  When we look at the world around us, we should be thankful for the many opportunities around us because there are millions of others (like in North Korea) that don’t have such freedoms.  Our friends at Angry Asian Man posted this video and though it’s not Korean related, I think it describes the experiences of many of our parents as they’ve sacrificed much to give us better lives in America.

Enjoy the Fourth of July!!!

Really Jon Gosselin?

Jon Gosselin needs a major PR overhaul and his handlers – if he has any – are not doing him any favors.  Then again, neither of the Gosselin’s are endearing themselves to middle America.  According to radaronline.com, Jon Gosselin printed a new tattoo onto his body which happens to be a Korean dragon.  Why would he do that?

Jon says he picked a Korean dragon because it’s a symbol of rebirth and the circle of life. “The dragon is all encompassing. It has all parts of the zodiac,” Jon tells RadarOnline.com.

Part of Jon’s changes include hiring a new manager, Canaan Rubin. Rubin tells RadarOnline.com, “This tattoo for Jon marks this turning point in his life, and symbolizes his time of change, and improvement.”
