Human trafficking and sexual slavery is an ongoing crime committed in multiple nations around the globe, even within the United States.

Eden, as we reported last summer, is a film inspired by the true story of Chong Kim, a Korean American who was sold into the sex slave industry in the U.S. and survived to bravely share her story.

The film was directed by Megan Griffiths, stars actress Jamie Chung who plays Hyun Jae, a teenager from New Mexico who is abducted and sold as a sex slave. The film delves into her life as a prisoner and how she gains power and trust within the industry to ultimately escape.

Eden will be one of eight films to premiere at the 2012 SXSW Film Festival in Austin, TX, on March 11th. Since her public testimony, Chong Kim—who also co-wrote the film’s script—has founded a nonprofit organization called MASIE (Minorities and Survivors Improving Empowerment), which helps survivors of sexual slavery by providing them with housing and connecting them to legal and health assistance.
