Simple, serene and full of graceful tones, Eunice and Michael’s wedding at the Royal Melbourne Country Club in Long Grove, IL, reflected the couple’s non-rococo sensibilities. The lovebirds (who met via Match.com) talked to us about their charming wedding ceremony, which was held on May 29, 2011 and was brilliantly shot by one of our favorite photographers, Kenny Kim.
When and how did you both meet?
Michael first moved to Chicago in the summer of 2007 for a new job not knowing a single person. One of his childhood friends (and later groomsmen) gave him one piece of advice: “Look for a suburban, church-going, and family-oriented teacher, and you’ll have good luck meeting someone in the Midwest.” So that’s exactly what he sought out for and finally through Match.com, he eventually met Eunice, a girl born and raised in the suburbs who worked as a pre-school teacher.
The proposal and their furry new family member…
After dating for over two years, Michael proposed on the steps of Museum Drive overlooking the Chicago skyline, the site of their first exchange of “I love you’s.” During engagement, Michael and Eunice purchased a new home in the heart of Lincoln Park, and welcomed the first addition to their family, a Chiweenie puppy adopted from Paws Chicago named Graham (Cracker) Kim.
Our wedding couldn’t have been more relaxed and carefree, despite the day opening with a vicious thunderstorm that lasted until the early afternoon. The weather cleared up by the time we were ready for our “first look”, and we were able to take advantage of our venue’s outdoor scenery for our pictures.
Our most memorable moment was our exchange of vows when Michael promised that he would be the best father that he could be, and when Eunice said she wished us to grow old with our dog, Graham.
During the reception, Eunice remembered a piece of advice that a friend gave to her, which was to take a moment to step back and soak in everything that’s happening because the night would go by in a flash. This is the same advice we would pass on to newly-engaged couples.
Thanks to Eunice and Michael for sharing their wedding with us!
