Apparently Korean bodies are changing shape. Someone in South Korea studied the evolution of the Korean body and there have been changes, and we’re not referring to plastic surgery. The news come from research by the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards. I guess you can call them “KATS.” At least one thing hasn’t changed and that is Korean women are still beautiful.
Compared to 1979, the length of men’s faces decreased from 24.6 cm to 23.6 cm, and from 23.3 cm to 22.3 cm for women. The width also shrank, with 15 percent lower chin capacity for Koreans born after the 1970s. The shape of the head also changed, the forehead morphing from flat and narrow to more convex and wider. Overall, heads have become rounder, chins narrower, the mid-facial area longer, and cheekbones less prominent.
Body shapes are also transformed. The average height of men in their 20s is now 173.2 cm, up 6 cm from 1979. As for women, the average height is 160 cm, up 4.5 cm from 30 years ago. In 1979, men were over 10 cm shorter than Westerners, but now Korean men are just 5.3 cm and Korean women are 5.5 cm shorter than Americans.
Body proportions also changed. According to the study, both Korean men and women are now about seven heads tall. The history of Korean fashion shows men during the ancient Three Kingdoms Period were 5.9 heads tall, during the Chosun Dynasty 6.4, in 1979 6.8, and now 7.4. Women were 5.8 heads tall during the Three Kingdoms Period and are now 7.2 heads tall.

The New York Times love affair with South Korea continues as another article about Korean society is published this past weekend. This time they investigate the recent increase in births of biracial children born of mixed marriages, who are known as “Kosians,” a mix of Korean and Asian. This is the result of an increasing number of Korean men marrying other Asian women.
That is only about 1 percent of the approximately 12 million children in South Korea under the age of 19. But if marriages to foreigners continue to increase at their current rate — they accounted for 11 percent of all marriages here last year — more than one in nine children could be of mixed background by 2020, demographic researchers say.
The article brings up the same theme from a previous New York Times article about how South Korea is dealing with race. The first article was about the influx of foreigners that now reside in South Korea and this one is about the increasing population of mixed children. Based on these articles, you would think that South Korea is the only Asian country dealing with race issues. It begs the question, is South Korea really that unique from other countries or is South Korea’s challenges that much more pronounced? What is going on in South Korea is healthy and a natural evolution of globalization and it will challenge their beliefs on homogeneity. For Korea’s sake, I hope they embrace diversity and lead the Asian countries in embracing diversity.

Our friends at DramaFever.com took the liberty to select their top ten leading men in Korean dramas. Drum roll please! They are Lee Seung Gi, Jang Geun Seuk, Yoon Sang Hyun, Bae Soo Bin, Jung Il Woo, Cha Seung Won, Jung Joon Ho, Oh Ji Ho, Park Hae Jin, and Kim Bum.
Can’t say we’ve seen a drama that each of these men have been in but they all seem worthy of the DramaFever honor. Who do you think is deserving to be on this list?

The movie “New Moon” is all the rage and all the young ladies are gaga over leading man Robert Pattinson. I wonder if the Korean ladies fancy Mr. Pattinson like all the ladies in the states? Maybe if he speaks Korean?! The South Korean interviewer does a pretty good job of getting the rest of the cast to speak some Korean words (towards the end of the video). On a side note, doesn’t Robert Pattinson look like a real vampire?

How hard is it to be an all-Asian band trying to make it? Real hard! We met up with “Seriously” while they were touring through the northeast corridor and they shared with us their love for music and the sacrifices they made along the way. So how did 3 Korean guys and a Vietnamese dude from southern California come together to make a band? It all started when they assembled for the famed Kollaboration talent show and won it. They’ll readily admit to you that right before the concert, the music wasn’t sounding to harmonious but by the grace of God, it all came together and they quickly shot to fame in the Asian music scene. Has it been easy for Josh, Philip, Nathan and Chris since Kollaboration? Not necessarily but they continue to make music and pursue their heart’s passion and they hope to break through the multitude of barriers. Meet the band “Seriously.”

Ninja Assassin hasn’t gotten the best of reviews from film critics and we won’t find out how well it did in the theaters for another few days but what we do know is that there’s a lot of buzz for RAIN. It’s been reported that Hollywood is engaging RAIN and he’s already looking at a handful of scripts. If his fan base comes out in full force, and the movie does well with box office receipts, then you know Hollywood will give RAIN another try. CNN even took notice this week as they state that RAIN “has all the trimmings of an international superstar in the making.” Let it RAIN!

Brad Pitt was a bad ass in Fight Club and Gerard Butler was a tank in 300, but RAIN holds his own in Ninja Assassin. So how did he build that physique? A lot of fish, chicken and nuts. And a workout that will kill’ya. Check out his workout below. It’s been suggested that since he hired the team that trained the 300 actors, that he must’ve gone through a similar training regimen like the one below.
