This morning, the Julliard School, Korean Beacon and other institutions were inundated by communications regarding the health and whereabouts of Eugene Park, a Korean-American violinist. We are posting this to bring attention to Eugene Park, but we do not endorse the comments nor support the accusations made in this editorial. Help for Eugene Park by 하선진
Eugene Park is an US-born, Korean violinist who, by most people’s standards, can be called a genius. Born in the United States in 1976, he entered Julliard at the age of 8, and has been noted as one of the best violinists of the decade. He has released two albums, one in 1997 and the other in 1998. He came to Korea, his home country around 1998 and was called a national hero by the media. However, he has disappeared from media since a few years ago. Recently, Korean fans have found out that he has been exploited and manipulated by his agents in Korea. He has literally been imprisoned for several years and seems to have been forced to take drugs, which worsened his bipolar disorder and light autism. The medication made Park not play by his own will, but by the force of his agents. The CEO of his management company seems to have connections with the police and therefore the Korean police have not reacted in any way regarding this case. There is even talk that the CEO recorded a video of Park without any clothes on. We, as Koreans, feel that this tragic reality must be handled not only by Korean media, but also American media as well.
Most Koreans know Park’s name from his overwhelming popularity in the late 1990s. Park was once a worldwide renowned artist who performed in Super Bowl, and some even regarded him as the next Vanessa Mae. He was invited to play at Michael Jackson’s concert in Seoul and even played at the Presidential Inauguration in 1999. This top performer is now suffering from exploitation, violence and abuse from his agent. His health is seemingly in danger. From the videos of him performing on stage throughout this year, one can see the impact his health condition has made in his performances. The difference between his performances before becoming mentally unstable and after is stark. One example is the clear difference between these two performances of the same song:
In the latter performance, Park seems to have trouble just keeping up with the beat. This performance was right after Park was beaten and locked in a room by his agent. His agents’ abuses have caused Park to become mentally unstable. It is hard for us to find out exactly what state Park is in current because there is no way we can reach him. However, there have been assumptions that Park has been taking medication to help with his instability.
Park’s agents seem to have taken advantage at the fact that Park is an US-born, 2nd-generation Korean who has limited knowledge about Korean culture. They have locked Park in a room, only letting him out to play at small concerts and events. The concerts that he has been playing at are small in scale and usually poorly planned out. The agent, or “manager,” as Koreans call it, is taking advantage of Park’s weak health. From what many Koreans have seen from video clips of his latest performances, Park’s passionate and inspiring performances are nowhere to be seen, and what we can only see is his blank stares and his hitting wrong tunes. This is not because he has suddenly lost his potential, or because he is not a passionate musician anymore; it is because of the current situation he is in, the continuous abuse of his agent and lack of help from outside. We are sending out this message to the world because we do not want this shining star to lose its light. We want him back to the place where he is supposed to be standing–be it Carnegie Hall, Sejong Art Center, a top TV music program–rather than the decrepit stages on which he is forced to play. We hope to publicize Park’s current situation so that more Americans, not to mention the world, will know what is going on with this Korean-American artist. Park came to his home country to find his roots and perform in front of the Korean audiences, and certainly he does not deserve this kind of treatment.
It is impossible to get Park out of this horrible situation without foreign help because of many reasons. First of all, he is a second generation Korean who is not completely fluent in Korean, making him an easy target for his agents to take charge. Also, Park’s father passed away a few years ago and the rest of Park’s family is currently in the United States. His management company is so heavily involved with Korean mafia that it is hard for the police to intervene. Because of these reasons and others we do not yet know of, Park is chained to his management company as he has been for years. He is not even healthy enough to play on stage, yet alone record a new album. It is sad to see such a bright star fade away by outside influence, and as his fans who remember him playing his violin on TV, we want to help in any way we can.
Even though we are Koreans who are proud to have such a musical genius such as Park in our country, we feel that he needs help, most importantly help from Americans, to get out of this devastating situation. Park is an American citizen who came to Korea because he loved his home country, and it is sad to see him get betrayed by some of his own people. We ask you to help Park become a shining star once again.

Eugene Park is.. was a musical prodigy.. a genius in his own right. To see him in this fragile and deteriorated state literally brings tears to my eyes. His fans and family needs to intervene and get him out of Korea and the bastards that are abusing him. What can we do? A very sad day for his music lovers.

This is catastrophic! This is not the way a talented musician should be treated. Scums who are USING a talented and gifted musician for their own good should be castigated. Even though he is being mistreated, I can see the flame toward music. We shouldn’t let pigs extinguish the fire. By the way, what are Koreans doing for this matter?

Please, is there a petition online to support this person? As a fellow korean in America, I wish to help this poor man out in any way I could. We shouldn’t just read and forget about news like this. Action have to be taken. I do not know much on him..but seeing his drastic performances and seemingly desperate condition, I wish to help.

Eugene Park is obviously an extraordinarily gifted man. I looked up his Village Underground video on youtube and I was absolutely floored by his charisma and passion. And as a Korean American myself, I also feel a sense of pride, as well as a certain connection to him.
But I gotta ask this – Where’s the proof, or at the very least, evidence of your allegations regarding his management company? I’m not saying you don’t have it, it’s just that you don’t provide it. It might be something you would want to do if you really want the support of the international community.
Because personally, before I take whatever action I can, I would like to see what I’m fighting against instead of taking someone’s word for it.
At any rate, the man doubtlessly needs help. I hope and pray that he gets it soon. God bless Eugene Park.

What we CAN do is spread the word as far as we can. Make it so big it HAS to be noticed by American news. Then, we can go from there. Please, spread the word and save this man. Post it on your twitter, blog about it, tell people.

At Mikey, you are wrong, it’s not the parents when it comes to this, it’s a known fact that management in Korea is poor, to the point when many stars are hospitalized for exhaustion and barfing backstage during concerts, etc. As you can tell from the first video, he was enjoying it, not being forced into by his parents.

He’s sufferings depressions due to violence and confinement from his agents.

The reason why many Korean people are appealing this event to public opinion in abroad is because of the corrupt police and dodgy media in Korea. There are many evidence showing that Eugene has been terribly abused by his previous and currrent management companies – actually, they are same, just changed the official name. This photo was taken in 2004 and uploaded on the internet in 2007, but the man behind Eugene is his current manager. There is a discrepancy between that time and the manager as his current management insists that Eugene signed a contract with them in 2009 and they have nothing to do with any mental and physical abuses on Eugene. Without help from the world, Eugene cannot be free.

As written below, the case of Eugene Park is truly regrettable, and the Korean public commonly understands and reflects on their neglect which had put the musician to such circumstances. However, in order to revitalise the genius violinist and to put him back on his own feet, we need more coverage on any forms of media, so that this case is fully publicised and so that this musician is not neglected again. Please show your kind interest on this issue, and help us bring back life to his music. Thank you.

The Korean public is overwhelmed by as more reports are being released concerning the serious abuses of the genius violinist Eugene Park.
Born in 1975, New York, Park earned early recognition for his talents, entering the pre-college division of the Julliard School by the age of 8. During his years in Julliard, Park was awarded from prestigious institutions such as the Aspen Music School Competition. After his graduation from the Julliard School, he releases two albums with Sony: The Bridge (1997), and Peace (1998). Koreans remember Park by his astonishing and rather shocking stage performance in the late 90s, shortly before he disappeared into thin air, with only rumours about him returning to the US.
More news on Park are being released about his last 10 years, which people refer to as the Korean real-life version of the famous Hollywood film August Rush (2007). The musician had performed alongside Michael Jackson on the “Michael Jackson & Friends” benefit concert (1999) in Korea and also for at the Korean National Presidential Inauguration for President Kim Dae Jung. However, his days of glory shortly came to an end as a small record label, Dreamline Entertainment approached Park.
Dreamline Entertainment is also a rather unfamiliar name to Korean nationals, since its size and capability is nothing near a proper record label. Taking advantage of the inarticulateness and instability of Eugene Park, Dreamline succeeded in having Park sign extremely illegitimate contracts, which allowed the company to exploit the musician in every possible way.
Profits nearing eight-hundred-thousand US dollars is reported to have been fully taken over by the company during the last decade, along with Park’s three-hundred-thousand US dollar worth violin. Park has been forced into excessive trails of small-scale concerts, where not as many people would notice the distinguished musician. Park’s every move was closely monitored, and occasionally physically beaten when refusing strict orders from the company.
The fury of the Korean public has been unleashed on the web, resulting in various internet blogs and campaigns to “rescue” the once-magnificent musician from his regrettable circumstances. Currently all forms of public and legal measures are being considered by the online campaigns, but the fate of the musician seems yet unclear.

상황의 추이를 지켜보느라 너무 늦게 글을 올리게 되었어요.
사실도 확인이 안된 채, 그저 루머라고만 전달되고,
언론사들도 이 사건에 별 관심이 없는 듯한 느낌에 한 마디 저의 말이 큰 도움이 될 수 있는 건지
오히려 사실 확인도 안된 상황에서 공인에 대해 단순히 목격한 것만 얘기하는 게
오히려 그 사람 이미지나 경력에 해가 되지 않을까,
또 사람인지라 제 사생활에 큰 불편함이나 불합리함이 생기지 않을까 고민을 많이 했습니다.
하지만 그를 정말 돕고 싶다는 생각에,
자유로운 그의 모습을 보고 싶다는 마음에 글을 쓰기로 결심했어요.
제가 쓴 글이 그에게 도움이 되길 바래요.
뭐 특별히 중요한 사실은 없지만, 그 사람의 상태 정도는 알릴 수 있을 것 같아서 써요.
지금도 이게 그에게 궁극적으로 도움을 주는 일인지 이미지를 실추시키는 일인지 판단이 안 서 혼란스럽지만

제가 신문을 보면,

어떤 네티즌 분들은 뉴욕엔 아예 안 가신 줄 알고 있지만
가시는 것을 목격한 저로서는 언제 돌아왔는지는 말씀 못 드려도 확실히 가셨다는 건 말씀드릴 수 있습니다.

이 말 듣고 이 사람 제정신이 아닌가 보다 했어요. 누구나 신문은 읽으니까요.
하지만 나중에 모든 상황을 다 안 뒤, 대화 중 smart란 단어에 집착하시는 걸로 보아
그간의 잘못된 계약이나 그러한 상황을 벗어나지 못하는 자신의 한계 때매 답답해 하신 걸로 이해가 됐어요.

사실 저도 별로 궁금하지 않아서 더 묻진 않았어요.
사실은 음악 한다고 하고 정신 없어 보여 마약하는 사람일지도 모른다고 생각도 했었어요.
그래서 가까이 하기가 좀 겁도 났지만 순간 스쳐 지나가는 사람이라 별 신경 안 썼어요.
제가 보는 동안만 두 번 투약하셨어요.
약봉지에 박유진이라고 한글로 씌여져 있었고,
이런 일이 있을 줄 알았더라면 병원이나 약국이름도 봐두고 더 물어 봤을텐데..
그 다음은 유진씨는 R&B가 좋다 그러구 지미 핸드릭스가 좋다 하시고,
마이클 잭슨 너무 안ㄷㅚㅆ다고도 하고, 너무 지쳐서 뉴욕에 쉬러 간다 했어요.
뉴욕 가는 거 오랜만이라며.. 뉴욕이 살기가 한국보다 편하다며 더 오래 있고 싶지만
자기는 스케줄 때매 일주일밖에 못 있는다고 했어요.
정확한 날짜는 얘기 안하고요.
공항에는 엄마가 픽업 나오고 엄마를 너무 사랑한다고 말하며 엄마 얘기를 시작했어요.

My mom went there. She is a very smart woman. She speaks perfect English.
She does business related to real estate in New York.
My father passed away. He was a doctor. I’m their only son.

아버지 돌아가셨다는 소리에 놀라서 I’m sorry(유감이야)라고 말해 화제가 전환 됐어요.
가족얘기를 다하고 쉬러 간다고 했지만 이번에 방송상에는 외할아버지 편찮으셔서 늦게 귀국했다던데
외할아버지 얘기는 한 번도 안했어요.
어머니께서 전에는 classic만 하길 고집하셨는데 이제는 너 하고 싶은 거 하라고 인정해줘서 좋다는 애기도 하고..

이 말을 듣는 순간, 이 사람 뭔가 착각하고 있는 줄 알았어요.
전 하두 헐리우드 배우들 파파라찌들에 시달리는거 많이 보고 진짜 불쌍타 했는데
난 이 사람 듣지도 보지도 못한 사람인데 자기 한국에서 싸인도 많이 하고 유명하다고
자꾸 얘기시키고 사라장이 친구라 그러고 8살 때 줄리어드 들어갔다하고
그것도 모자라 자기가 무슨 유명배우마냥 사생활 필요하다니 너무 어의 없어서

진짜 감금당하고 그렇게 사는 줄 몰라서 그런 쪽으로는 상상도 못해서 따뜻하게 대하지 못했어요.
나중에 인터넷 찾아보니 다 사실였는데.. 제가 무지하여..
아마 종합하여 볼 때 생활이라도 회사사람하고 떨어져 혼자 하시고 싶다는 의미였던 것 같습니다.

지금 상황을 다 안 이상 그 때 제가 그에게 했던 수많은 말들이 너무 민망해요.
얼마나 답답하셨을까요? 그러니 무슨 말을 하려다가도 삼키고 삼키고..
그리고 제가 유진씨를 모르는 것을 의아해 하셨어요.
전 한국 티비 잘 안보지만, 그래도 진짜 유명하면 아는데,
그 분은 자신이 한 수많은 공연이 다 방송된 줄 알고 그러셨겠죠.

이렇게 말했더니 유진씨가..
I hope you’ll find somebody. (네가 누군가를 찾길 바래.) 라고 굉장히 따뜻하게 얘기해줬어요.
그 때부터 약간의 경계가 풀리기 시작하고 이 사람이 굉장히 순수한 사람 이란게 느껴졌어요.
유진씨를 너무 몰라서 후회 되요.
돈도 없다 하니까 돈도 못 받고 일한 줄은 모르고 그저 예술가는 배고픈 직업이 맞나보다 라고만 생각했어요.
그렇게 착취 당하신 줄 몰랐고 그런 식으로 얘기도 안 하셨고,
저도 낯선이에게 왜 돈이 없냐고 물어볼 수도 없는 노릇 였죠.
미리 알았더라면, 더 중요한 걸 물어보고 들을 수 있었을텐데..
유진씨는 이어서
지금 한국에서는 춘천에 거주한다 하고
춘천은 먼데 왜 서울 안 살고 춘천사냐고 했더니 서울은 너무 비싸데요.
그러면서 갑자기 자기 피곤해 보이지 않냐며 얼굴을 자세히 보라고 했어요.
근데 저는 유진씨의 전에 모습을 한 번도 본 적이 없어서 그 땐 그저 모르겠다고 했는데 갑자기 모자를 확 벗었어요.
모자를 벗으니 30대 남자가 앞머리숱이 너무 없어서 완전 깜짝 놀랐어요. 땀에 완전 눌려서 더 없어 보였어요.
땀을 범벅하고 있으면서 긴 스웨터를 한 여름에 입고 계시고 거기다 캡 모자까지 쓰시고..
좀 공인이라고 믿을 수 없는 옷차림과 말투, 그런 시츄에이션이라 저는 끝까지 의심했어요.
나중에 인터넷 찾아봤어요. 사실일까..근데 비슷하게 생겼지 완전 다른 얼굴 여서 아닌가보다 했다가
또 나중에 그 두 사람이 닮은 얼굴이 아니라 같은 사람이라 해서 더 놀랐어요.

그리곤 줄리어드 같이 다니던 동기들이
옛날엔 그렇게 잘 연주하지 못했던 칭구들이 요새 너무 잘하는 거 보면 좀 질투가 난다고 하며
뭔가 새로운 걸 해야하는데 나이 들어서 음악하는게 쉽지 않다고 했어요.
그러면서 또 느닷없이 Do you have many friends?(너 칭구많아?) 이러는 거예요.
그래서 Yes(네)그랬더니,,
more than five??( 다섯 명도 넘어?)이렇게 물어봤어요.
그래서 Yes(네)그랬더니 이번엔 more than twenty?? ( 20명도 넘어?) Yes(네) 했더니
You’re so popular.(너 정말 인기많구나)이렇게 말해서..정말 또 한번 놀라고..
이 사람은 칭구가 20명이 안되다보다.??
외롭나보다. 오죽하면 낯선 날 붙잡고 자기 살아온 인생사를 얘기하나 했어요.
심지어 뉴욕에서 어머니와 머물 집주소까지 말해줬어요.
제 전 직장이 있던 곳이라 기억은 나지만 그 분들 사생활상 그건 밝힐 필요가 없을 것 같아요.
너무 이상한 얘기들이지만 너무 절박해 보여서 자리를 피할 수가 없었어요.
나중에 방송보니 한국에서 지인이 별로 없어 구조요청도 하실 수가 없단 얘기에 눈물 날 뻔 했어요.
줄리어드 친구 얘기도 친구들은 계속 연습해서 실력이 날로 일취월장하는데 반해 본인은 실력이 녹슬어버려 한 얘기 같아요.
담배를 피고 싶은데 담배가 없어서 그런지 손도 떠셨어요.
커피랑 술은 안하신다고 담배만 핀데요.
미국에서 담배가 얼마냐고 제게 물어서 잘 모르지만 7-8달러 한다고 하니까 그렇게 비싸냐며 놀랐어요.
미국사람이면서 그것도 흡연자가 그런 것도 모르나 모든게 의심스러웠어요.
한국과 미국경제 얘기도 하고 미국정치 얘기도 했지만
미국사람인데 하나도 모르고 한국사정에도 많이 어두워
이 사람이 정말 음악만 하고 순수하기만 하지 세상물정은 모르는 사람이었어요.
면세점에서 담배를 어떻게 사야 할 지도 몰랐고,,면세점이 담배가 더 싸다는 것도 몰랐어요.
그러곤 이제 자기한테 남은 과제는 한국에 가서 함께 일하는 사람들과 좋은 관계를 유지해야 하는 거라고 하며
그게 쉽지 않을 일이라고 했어요.

No.(아뇨)
Me, neither. it is needed. (나도 없어. 필요해.)
그리고 제 이름을 묻곤 악수를 청하며 Nice to meet you.라 뒤늦게 얘기했어요.
진짜 천진하게 그런 상황에서도 환하게 웃으며,,
정말 붙잡고 얘기할 누군가가 필요 했었나봐요.
그의 손은 땀이 가득차서 정말 몸이 안좋게 느껴졌어요.
그러면서 막판에 떠날 때도 이상한 말을 하고 갔어요.
From now on, you don’t know me. OK? (지금부터 넌 날 모르는거다. 오케이?)
첨엔 이건,,ㅁㅝㅇ미??했어요.
다신 안볼텐데 구지 모르는 척 하자는게 마지막으로 이상한 사람인거 확인사살 했죠.
하지만 이제 돌이켜보면 자기 사생활 얘기를 떠들고 다니지 말라는 건지,
아님 그 사람 계속 시간을 물어볼 정도로 뭔가 너무 불안해 보이던데
혹시 나의 신변보호 배려차원에서 한 건지 왜 그 말을 한 건지는 모르겠어요. 그저 전 Yes (네)고만 했네요.
그래서 저 마지막 말 때매 이 얘기를 이렇게 공개적으로 써야할지..아직도 고민이 되요.
저는 유진씨를 뵙고 얘기를 나눠서 언론에서 이 사실이 루머로 터졌다고 나왔지만
루머가 아닌 걸 몸소 알 수 있었어요.
신문이 항상 정확히 사실만을 기재하는 데는 한계가 있다 느꼈어요.
그렇지 않고서는 그 사람의 행동은 하나도 이해 되어지는 부분이 없어요.
이 모든 일을 알고나서왜 그가 그렇게 불안정하고 그렇게 절박해 보였는지 완전히 이해가 가요.
춘천 산다는 건 제가 얘기들은 바로 꼭 같고,
하지만 그 때 봤던 얼굴은 휴식을 취했던 사람 얼굴이 아니라 몰골 이였어요.
옛 사진하고 비교해보면 완전 딴 사람 같죠.
하지만 좀 전에 연예가중계에 나온 유진씨는 그 날 봤던 것보다는 얼굴이 많이 좋아지셨어요.
미국에서 좀 쉬신 듯 해요.
하지만 그 날을 기준으로 제가 느끼기에 유진씨는 빨리 치료가 필요한 상태예요.
더 좋은 음악가로 거듭나시려면..
지금은 혼자서 할 수 있는 게 많이 없으시고 간단한 서류작성도 도와드렸어야 하고
gate찾는 것도 허둥지둥 하셔서 더 많은 휴식이 필요한 듯 해요.
그리고 정신이 오락가락 하셔도 저한테 말한 정보가 인터넷에 있는 정보랑 똑같은 걸로 봐서
지금이라도 치료를 하신다면 그동안의 상처와 몸에 생긴 손상이 치유될 수 있는 가능성이 있어 보여요.
한가지 확실한 건 그는 지금 일을 할 수 있는 상태가 아니라는 점입니다.
지금 영어 통역사를 써서 단독 인터뷰를 해야 한다 하지만,,
지금의 유진씨 상황은 영어로도 아무 얘기를 할 수 없는 상태예요.
하도 인생사는 게 너무 힘들다 해서, 너는 너 좋아하는 일 하믄서 왜 그러냐고? 물어도 아무 말을 못해요.
뭐가 옳고 그른지 판단 능력도 없어 보이고, 현실감각도 전혀 상실한 채, 사는 게 힘들다고만 하지
구체적인 이유를 대지 않고, 또 사람들 얘기는 더더욱 안 해요.
아예 그 화제를 피하고 싶어하는 것 같아요.
그런 언급자체를 너무 두려워할 수도 있구요.
누군가에 대해서 전혀 나쁘게 얘기하는 것을 못 들었어요. 그 분 심성이 고와서..
지금 유진박씨에게 필요한 건 그의 고향 뉴욕에서, 그의 어머니 옆에서 심신의 안정을 되찾는 일 이예요.
그 분이 무사히 여기 생활을 접고 빠른 시일 내에 뉴욕으로 돌아가길 바래요.
저도 어머니가 조치를 좀 취했으면 하지만, 그 분도 무슨 사정이 있을 거라 생각해요.
얼마나 속이 안 좋으시겠어요. 우리 같은 타인도 이런데.. 자식인데..
그 어머니는 정확하진 않지만 67세쯤 되는 걸로 알고 있습니다.
지금 유진씨는 어린아이 같아요. 시키는 데로 말만 듣는..
유진씨는 자기 입으로 진실을 말할 준비도 안 되있는 상황입니다.
우리나라에서 어떻게 할 수 없다면,
그는 미국시민이기 때문에 미국에 도움을 청하는 방법도 좋을 것 같아요.
미국시민이다 한국시민이다 말이 많지만 그는 확실히 여전히 미국시민입니다.
그래서 대사관 통하는 것도 좋은 생각 같아요.
낯선 사람에게 평소에 말도 없다는 사람이 너무 많은 얘기를 한 걸로 봐서
그건 정말 무슨 일을 대비해 SOS청한 걸지도 몰라요.
겉도는 얘기만 했지만,,이런 일이 생기니 그 때 그 사람 행동이 놀랍지도 않네요.
아무래도 너무 조심스러워서 인터넷상 제 아이디도 정보도 다 위조되었어요.
신분이나 정황 같은 걸 낱낱히 다 밝힐 수 없는 점 양해 바라구요,
제 신분은 위조 되었어도, 제가 쓴 글은 모두 사실이고 아는 것을 모두 다 밝혔어요.
혹시나 이 글이 유진씨의 영어권 사람들하고의 의사소통까지 단절할 수 있는 계기가 될 수 있다고 판단하시면
운영자 분께서 거침없이 지워주세요.
그 쪽에서 더 일일이 유진씨의 소통능력을 여러 방면으로 차단하면 곤란하기에.
저는 개인적으로 지금 상황추이를 지켜봐선 그 어떤 질의, 응답이라도 하고 싶지 않습니다.

It shows how the mafia agent has been exploiting him and forced him to play at poorly organized local small restaurants. The genius musician graduated from Julliard School shoud never be treated like that. Please watch his facial expression which shows his desperate condition.
If you compare the first concert clip and the current one, you may also notice the difference of violins. His original violin was taken by the mafia and it is assume that they sold it out. The original violin cost $300000 and the current one only cost $500!!!!

제가 일하던 미용실에 유진박님이 다니셨습니다(전 그때 인턴,,,)

갑자기 도망을 막 가는거요

얼마 못뛰고 화장실앞에서 멈추더이다

해맑게 웃으면서 싸인해주면서
이건 비밀인데 나 갇혀있다 도망가야돼 이렇게 말했소

even if it’s such a shame of Korea, we have to release this unbelievable story of Eugene Park by ourselves. i don’t know how much he suffered by his ex-agents violence, but now we see Eugene we’ve never expected or even imagined. something that should not happen happened. we know it’s late to take him back tatally, but even so we have to try something we can. we saw one man’s freedom passed away. we don’t need to see these sore of things for him anymore.

everybody is worried and nobody is doing anything. everybody in korea knows there is a problem and no one has done anything about it.
last year micheal white died in a sauna in gyoengsan in 40 cm. of water. there were 15 people next to him and nobody helped him. i expect the same thing to happen to eugene park. im sure mr. park regrets the day he ever came to korea.he could have gone and been successful in any country in the world, but he chose korea.

There are no rules and no laws for victims but only those for criminals in Korea. It is too shameful to speak of. Korean organizations cry out the human rights only for the criminals but they ignore those for victims. I feel very heavy and stuffy with this issue. I know Eugene Park, the genius violinist, who I have seen on TV before. Just never imagine that he was caught and got too much sufferings.
We, Koreans, just lost a genius musician with indifference of him. He will have never played like before, like the meridian of his talent. I see that his face changed by abuse and his eyes became bleared and expresses a vacant laugh towards people. All will know that something goes very weird if one watches a video that has recorded of him. For example, Look at his attitudes with his hand shaping “V” carefully. Can anyone think that it is normal? When the creature ( I want to call the one sitting next to him “an unknown creature” )put his hand on Mr. Park’s shoulder, he, Mr. Park, raised his hand with “V” automatically and mechanically like a well-trained dog.
I mourn for all his pains. It is very sorrowful event that should never be happened again. Is Korea in war or any domestic warfare or any disturbance as serious as we are not able to care for or protect the weak? Only the title, “Republic”, remains and the abuse of power and graft here and there.
Not by foreign powers but by ourselves should Korea, if we go consistently as we do now, be corrupted within years.
Anyone come and tell me how effectively I can help him and this kind for the future.

유진박님을 보면 지난 5월부터 어제까지도 계속 같은 옷만 입고 다녀요.
두꺼운 길팔 셔츠에 긴팔 자켓을요…
것도 철 지난 옷을 입고 말이죠..ㅠㅠ
10년전엔 스타일리쉬하고 머리결도 좋았는데.. 이젠 머리결도 푸석하고..
공연하는 모습보니까 목에는 땀이 줄줄 흐르고 이마엔 머리카락이 다 붙어 있더라구요. ㅠㅠ
그런데도 소속사에선 옷도 안갈아 입혀요.
모텔에 1년 몇개월 감금되어 있을때도 바이롤린을 빼앗아 갔대요.
행사 3개하면 니 바이올린 줄게.. 행사 해!!
이런식으로 사람을 부려 먹었는데.. 너무 불쌍해요.
모텔에서 짜장면하고 볶음밥을 시켜 먹었는데..
짜장면 배달부에게 담배한개 달라고 매니져 없을때 말했대요.
매니져 있을땐 말도 못했대요.. 왜냐면 때리니까요.
도와주세요…
10년간 약물을 먹여 개처럼 끌고 다니고 있어요,
바이올린 켜는 앵벌이에요.
유진박은 너무 착하고 순수한 영혼이에요.

유진박님의 방송을 보고 있는 와중에
너무 무서운걸 느껴버리고 말았습니다..
일차적으로 유진박님은 이상조를 정말 좋은형이라고 생각하지 않을까 하는 의문입니다.
유진박님 말씀대로라면 김옥준이 사장일때는
개처럼 운동시키고 짜장면에 볶음밥만 먹이고 무리한 행사 스케줄에 때리기까지 하고 바이올린 뺐고..
그런데 이상조는
개처럼 운동은 안시키고 밥도 고기사주고 스케줄도 살인적이게 잡는거 같진 않고 (지방으로 돌리긴하지만) 결과적으로 바이올린 돌려주고..
그래서 순수한 유진박님은 정말 이상조가 자신을 도왔다…라고 생각할수도 있던게 무서웠구요.
두번째로는 이상조의 진짜 얼굴입니다.
저는 한때 에이전트 회사에서 행사 담당을 맡았기에
제가 연결 시킨 행사는 제가 직접 현장에 가서 그 행사 사진과 함께 행사 전반적인 흐름을 조사하는게 일이었는데요..
그때 김옥준 사장도, 이상조 실장도 두눈으로 보았습니다.
그땐 유진박님이 오시진 않았지만
이상조 실장이 소속 트로트가수 (육십 조금 안되신 아주머니) 에게 욕설을 하는걸 종종 보아왔습니다.
그런데 저는 행사 담당으로 파견된 사람인걸 알고
음료수도 사다주는등, 더운데 (혹은 추운데) 고생 많으시다는둥..
정말 사람좋아 보이는 웃음을 지으면서 얘길 걸더군요..
그땐 이게 사회생활이니까 하는 생각이 들지만
지금 유진박님을 보니 소름이 돋습니다.
유진박님께 과연 어떻게 평소에 행동할지 말이죠..
이 두가지보다 더 무서운건
유진박님이 지금 대접을 받는게 당연하다고 생각하는것 같아 너무 무섭습니다.
10년 동안의 온갖 밑바닥 행사에 익숙해지고 길들여진 그에게
어쩌면 지방행사는 당연한 일이 되어 버렸을 수도 있겠고..
그 당연함때문에 겉으로 사람좋아보이는 이상조에게 끌려다니며..
다시는 예전의 열린음악회와 미국 각지 유명한 공연장에서 다시는 설수 없겠다는 생각에..
이래저래 두려운 마음 뿐입니다..
모쪼록 유진박님이 조금만 더 현실적인 시선으로 자신의 처지를 바라볼 날이 왔으면 합니다.

최근 감금, 학대설에 휩싸인 바이올리니스트 유진박이 ‘tvN ENEWS’와의 인터뷰에서 전 소속사와의 관계를 밝혀 관심을 모으고 있다.
유진박은 “이제는 모든 의혹을 종식시키고 싶다. 더 이상 음악 하는데 있어 이런 것들로 힘들고 싶지 않다”며 제작진과 만남을 가졌다. 그는 “모텔에서 사는 거 생각하면 좀 이상했어. 왜냐면 좀 살기 힘들었어요. 근데 어쩔 수 없었어. 이 남자는 나 때릴 거야. 그 사람들 때리는 거 왜 때리는지. 그거 때문에 무서웠어요”라며 전 소속사의 횡포를 밝혔다

Mr. Eugene Park really needs our help.. what an unequal and hellish contract that his Mother signed for him..
Thats why I learnt a valuable lesson that is NEVER sign contracts with any company without consulting our families and friends first and of course, never trust any Korean companies.
They are all greedy for $$$… and yes bad companies do exist in this world sadly..

I, too was a victim of Korean guy intimidation seriously.. They used me for everything. Look at all corrupted conservative cronies and Korean police illegal connections with that management company.. Imo, they should all be punished and brought to justice.. Action speak louder than words. we should take action and rescue Eugene Park.. Please show some sympathies and empathy for this man.. Pray for him!

Ji Yoon: well unfortunately bad Koreans are everywhere in the world same goes with other nationalities
They can be disguised as a legitimate company and out there to exploit poor folks (like Eugene Park) this is like a fish bait trap exploit, so be very careful!!
