The worst case scenario happened with news of Laura Ling and Euna Lee being sentenced to 12 years of hard labor after a 5 day trial.  The U.S. government and Western Rights groups protested this outcome.  President Obama was “deeply concerned” by the sentencing.  Current TV, the employer of the two journalists had nothing to formally say and asked their own employees to not comment on the situation.   The conditions of hard labor camps in North Korea have been reportedly atrocious.  Euna Lee has a young daughter and both ladies are married.  Euna Lee and Laura Ling were both in the top ten of tweets on Twitter today and the news of their prosecution has made headline news everywhere.  It’s unfortunate that it had to take a sentencing to finally bring attention to their plight.  What will the U.S. do next to get these ladies back home?  Washington has vowed to “enage in all possible channels” to win their release.
