Chae Myeong-min was a spy for North Korea and defected to South Korea. Now he’s taking his history and life and producing a film – Choice – about the harsh realities and brutality of life in North Korea. Ask him on his views of past movies made about North Korea and he’ll tell you that they don’t go into the depth of how bad it is in North Korea. So he’s cast North Korean defectors in the film so he can really bring to life the raw emotions of life north of the DMZ.
“Choice” tells the tale of a North Korean government agent whose lover is caught trying to defect and is sent to prison. The agent finds himself at a crossroads: Should he rescue his lover and flee North Korea, or remain loyal to leader Kim Jong Il?
